CCRC 7-13-12 Kenya
Our first day was filled with the unexpected. After arriving rather late the previous night and getting into bed in the wee hours, we were up and out early to drive to CCRC; after riding about 25 minutes the bus breaks down on a 4 lane highway. The brakes were smoking and we all evacuated the bus pretty quickly and crossed 2 lanes of traffic without any mishaps. While we waited for a new bus we talked to people passing by and amoungst ourselves. It was quite a lark and we were having a fine time when the new bus arrived. When we arrived at CCRC the children were waiting for us and since the doctors were already there the medical team had to get moving quickly. The rest of us got busy engaging the children with games and balloons. We had been told that there would be approx 50 children, and as a good southern mom..I had supplies for 100; but that was no where nearly enough so we made the decision not to do crafts because we could not stand the thought of children looking on and not getting to participate. So we left all of the supplies and lots of craft tools for the teachers to use later. It was a great day, exhausting; but great. The joy and love that these kids showered on each other and on us was amazing especially when you were told their stories of being abandoned, abused and on the streets before being rescued by GOA (Glory Outreach Assembly) Pastor David and Joyce Thagana and being taught about God's love.
